Federal Programs - Impact on Vermonters

On Friday, March 27, 2020, the federal government passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act which included the expansion of those eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits. Additionally, on August 25, 2020, Governor Phil Scott announced Vermont had secured funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program.

As a notice to claimants on CARES Act programs, both PUA and PEUC are scheduled to end before December 31, 2020.  In Vermont, this means that the last week claimants may file is for the week ending December 26, 2020, with claimants receiving benefit checks after filing. Further updates will be provided should new information become available.

As the Department of Labor works to implement the various elements of these programs, please find information below about the impact on Vermonters.
