Thanksgiving holiday impact for claimants and jobseekers

November 17, 2022

State of Vermont and Department of Labor offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, and will resume regular business hours on Monday, November 28. This includes all local Job Center locations, as well as the UI Claimant Assistance Center.

Jobseekers may access services virtually at Labor.Vermont.gov/Jobs. Complete an online form to make an appointment with a local Career Specialist or create an account on Vermont JobLink to search for local jobs statewide.

UI Claimants may see a delay in receiving weekly benefit payments. With this in mind, here are some tips to help you avoid unnecessary delays in receiving your benefit payment or filing your weekly claim.

  • Choose Direct Deposit: With the approaching holidays, mail volume increases causing mail delivery to slow down.  While delays may occur due to bank closures, Direct Deposits are processed every business day while paper checks are generally mailed on Thursdays.
  • File your weekly claim early in the week: By filing your weekly claim for the week ending November 19, 2022, on Sunday (11/20) or Monday (11/21), your payment may be issued earlier. Claimants may file online or through the automated phone system.
  • Impact on Future Weeks: Due to office and bank closures, if you wait to file your weekly claim for the week ending November 19, 2022, until Thursday (11/24) or Friday (11/25), you will be unable to file your weekly claim for the week ending November 26, 2022, until as late as Thursday, December 1, 2022, depending upon your chosen payment method.
