Vermont Child Labor Laws Information & Resources
The federal child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA) were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize their health, well-being or educational opportunities. These provisions also provide limited exemptions.
Seven Child Labor Best Practices for Employers:
- Train supervisors or managers on child labor requirements.
- Distribute resources to current and new workers under 18.
- Build trust, create a line to anonymously report child labor violations.
- Provide different name tags to individuals under 16.
- Post warnings about hour limitations.
- Place signage on equipment that are prohibited for use.
- Use a STOP sticker on all hazardous equipment.
