The Vermont Department of Labor also operates a special benefit program for individuals who have been forced to leave their employment due to domestic or sexual violence. This is known as the Domestic and Sexual Violence Survivors’ Transitional Employment Program.
If an individual is disqualified for unemployment benefits, 21 V.S.A. Chapter 16A provides temporary partial wage replacement to individuals who must leave employment, without good cause attributable to the employer, because of circumstances directly resulting from domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Any time an individual is disqualified for regular unemployment benefits, and it is known to the Department that domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking may have resulted in the individual ending his or her employment, eligibility for this wage replacement is automatically explored.
