Labor Day Note from Commissioner Harrington

September 6, 2021

This year, Labor Day provides us a unique opportunity to pause, thank, and recognize the thousands of workers across Vermont that have supported our recovery efforts over the past 18 months.

COVID-19 brought with it an environment where many in Vermonters experienced a seismic shift in their daily work life. We are so very grateful for those frontline and essential workers who worked long hours to help build a response that has led the nation… from doctors and nurses and pharmacists to school bus drivers, custodial staff, store clerks, and so many others who played an important role through difficult times.

And, we know that many others sacrificed in a different way and we’re here to support those who may have experienced periods of partial or unemployment as they stayed home to keep themselves and their neighbors safe.

Today, we have an opportunity to look forward, and there has never been a better time to be looking for work in our state. Employers are hiring for great jobs with incentives not seen before the pandemic. Vermont also boasts the highest vaccination rate in the country, making our workplaces among the safest.

We know everyone is in a different place in their employment journey, and we recognize that this has been a very difficult time for many Vermonters. For those looking for some extra help or are unsure of where to start, our local teams stand ready to assist you. Whether you are looking to return to your career of choice, or are looking to retool for something new, please reach out.

We can help make connections to local opportunities and resources.

Our job after all, is to help you get back to doing yours.

Thank you,
Michael Harrington
