December 20, 2021
State of Vermont and Department of Labor offices will be closed for the Christmas Day holiday on Friday, December 24, and for the New Year’s Day holiday on Friday, December 31, 2021.
With this in mind, here are some tips to help you avoid further delays in receiving your benefit payment or filing your weekly claim.
- Choose Direct Deposit: With the approaching holidays, mail volume increases causing mail delivery to slow down. While delays may occur due to bank closures, Direct Deposits are processed every business day while paper checks are generally mailed on Thursdays.
- File your weekly claim early in the week: By filing your weekly claim for a given week on Sunday or Monday, your payment may be issued earlier. Claimants may file online or through the automated phone system.
- Impact on Future Weeks: Due to office and bank closures, if you wait to file your weekly claim until Thursday (12/23 or 12/30) or Friday (12/24 or 12/31), you will be unable to file your weekly until as late as Thursday the following week, depending upon your chosen payment method.
