High Call Volume - Unemployment Claims Center - State of Emergency

July 11, 2023

As you may be aware, the unprecedented weather conditions have caused significant disruptions throughout the state. Please be advised that Unemployment Insurance claimants who typically receive paper checks may see a multi-day delay in payment.

If you are an existing claimant, please continue to file as usual through the claimant portal: uipublic01.labor.vermont.gov/Claimantportal/portal/login.aspx.

The Department expects there to be very high call volume when the UI Claims Center reopens on Wednesday morning. Because of this, callers will experience longer than usual wait times.   To avoid long wait times, claimants are encouraged to call either later in the day, or later in the week. If you need to contact the UI Claimant Assistance Center to file your weekly claim, you have until Friday at 4pm to file.

Filing an initial claim later in the week to avoid high call volume will NOT impact your benefits or payment; you will not be penalized for a delay in opening a new claim.

For more information, including step-by-step video guides and other resources for claimants, go to www.Labor.Vermont.gov/Unemployment-Insurance.

The Vermont Department of Labor understands the importance of timely and reliable benefits, especially during challenging times. Our team is working diligently to address the situation and minimize any inconvenience caused by the current weather emergency.

The Department will post updates as they become available.
