VDOL Honors National Workers Memorial Day April 28, 2023
Every day in the United States approximately 14 people lose their lives to work related injuries. On April 28th, 2023, Workers Memorial Day, the Vermont Department of Labor remembers and honors the family members, friends, and coworkers who are behind these somber statistics. The Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA) investigates several such fatalities each year. These deaths, as well as other incidents resulting in serious injury, are sober reminders of the need to focus on the safety and health of everyone who goes to work each day.
“Since this time last year, five Vermont workers lost their lives on the job,” said Dirk Anderson, Director of VOSHA. “At least some of those deaths might have been prevented by greater attention to workplace safety. On this Workers Memorial Day, we hope that employers and employees alike take a moment to remember that safety should always be their first priority.”
Vermont joins the United States Department of Labor and our partner agencies in every state in bringing awareness to these losses and as we continue to strive for a safe workplace for every American.
A virtual national Workers Memorial Day ceremony will be broadcasted from the United States Occupational Safety and Health department, from Washington D.C at 1 p.m. To watch the event, please visit, www.osha.gov/workers-memorial.
